The Loud Mouth

As always at Octane Heads we like to showcase new and unique cars and builds. We are proud to present first ever official shoot and review of the only SLC43 AMG in Sri Lanka at the moment.

The Mercedes Benz brand is one of the most recognized the world over. Their new ranges of automobiles are both stunning to look at and excellently engineered. There was a time when they built some cars that couldn’t live up to its predecessors but they seemed to have gotten the formula spot on for their current crop of models.

In 1994, Mercedes Benz showed off a new concept car with a special roof, aptly named "vario-roof". The car went on sale two years later, and is still fondly remembered as one of the first few modern convertibles to have such a roof. The first generation sold in great numbers, and so did its successors. But has it been able to shed that ‘Hair dresser’ image?

Shown here is the latest incarnation of the SLK class. But they’ve dropped the K and replaced it with a C. From now on future generations will be known as the SLC. The styling has evolved immensely, combining Mercedes Benz’s latest design language and certain cues that hark back to the original R170 shape.

The first generation SLK was a pretty car. It had soft simple lines with smooth flanks and two lovely bulges on the bonnet. It was all downhill after that with later iterations having faces that only a mother could love.

Even in standard guise the current SLC looks the business. The pronounced and more masculine lines are shown even more extensively thanks to the fabulous matte paintwork.

Gone are the smooth flanks, now replaced with a prominent vent on the fender and a creased shoulder line that runs right up to the quarter panel.

The hottest bit in this car is its power plant. Open the bonnet and you are greeted to some plastic shrouding (sadly). Underneath it lies a 3.0 v6 biturbo engine that makes a very snarly noise once started up. Makes driving around town quite the hoot, managing to scare and excite many passersby.

Step inside, and its typical Mercedes Benz. Very well thought out interior makes driving an ease.

Aero style air vents borrowed from the bigger SLS AMG give the compact interior a premium touch.

The beautiful brushed aluminum controls and handles also add a touch of class.

This little car, with a mighty big heart has managed to capture my attention. Finally the little convertible from Mercedes Benz has managed to shed some of its hair dresser qualities, with a more masculine and better built package.

The new SLC43 AMG, is wonderful to drive and listening to that engine noise makes it a very lively experience. But would I take this over the new Boxster? I think not!
