Beautiful Monster!

Most people, guys especially always have a soft spot for their cars. Some more than others. They treat it with all the respect and care they can afford to give their precious auto mobile. Some even have a special connection with them that others cant seem to understand!

I am sure that most of you have felt the same way too? But there are moments when you have to let go of your pride and joy for something better. And that was the case for die hard Honda fan Sathish Varma. It came as a bit of a shock to all of us when he let go of his beloved Civic for this Evolution IV!

He still says that when he has the money he will buy another Civic as a daily runner, but lets talk about his new purchase for now shall we?

He came across the on-line advert for this very clean Evo while in the UK and fell in love immediately. And for one reason mainly, the fact that even though it was a converted car it was a complete and a very original example. And as soon I saw the car, I knew I needed to shoot it!

Sadly on the day of the shoot, the Weather Gods weren't very helpful  Nevertheless we thought we would go ahead with it as soon as the clouds cleared up!

A little bit of history on the Evolution IV, launched in 1996 the new Evo replaced the world famous Evo 3. By now Mitsubishi had gained much presence in the World Rally Championship. So this car had much to live up to. The whole platform was changed, and AYC was introduced too! The big fog lamp movement also started with the Evo IV!

And so did the uniquely shaped tail lamps! Another trademark that lived on till the 6th incarnation of the Evo....

The only thing that wasn't left stock on the car was the exhaust system! A full 3 inch straight through system from Japan makes this 4G63 sing a very lovely tune!

Shall we step inside for a moment ??

And take a quick peak at the interior of this Beautiful Monster.....

Welcome to Sathish's new office! As always he needs his music loud and clear, hence why the only thing that has been changed is the head unit! But its a good thing the rest of the interior has been left alone.

I think the 90's was the time when white face gauges were getting popular.....

Recaro seats and Momo steering wheels were customary in all Evolutions. They felt ever so plain with out them!

Got to love the classic 90's style that this very unique seat material brings out! Sadly it wasn't used on the next generation of Evolution's....

A full shot of the very cool figure hugging bucket seats!

One more of shot of the Momo and the dash!

What a side profile! Something that the Evo was famous for was the outrageous size of their spoilers! The one on the Evo VI was adjustable too! If I was allowed to change something on this car, it would be the ride height!

One thing I wouldn't change though are these simple but purposeful wheels!

The lightweight 16 inch OZ alloys came standard on the Evo IV. And don't they suit the car well!

Proof that this isn't a ordinary Lancer any more!

The heart of the beast! The 4G63 platform is probably the most popular engine to ever come out of Japan! Its been in use since the 80's in various Mitsubishi's and was improved little by little over the years. The vast amount of aftermarket parts make it very popular among tuners. Strong blocks mean that insane amounts of power could be extracted out of them too! This one though has been left stock (For now!) other than a Blow off valve which you can see hiding in the corner!

As future plans go, Sathish plans on a few subtle mods including suspension and performance mods. But I am happy to hear that he will be keeping it mostly stock!

Enough talk now, I shall let the pictures of this beauty do the talking!

I shall leave you with this one! Wishing Sathish all the luck with his new ride! A big Thank you to him and his friend Muzahir (Thanks for the engine shot Muzahir) for taking the time to let me shoot the car!

  10. More constructively, I was passing that area a few days ago and thinking it would be a nice area for a shoot, but too many vehicles around. At least you've been lucky with the crowds!

Did the guy who owns this run a Civic at the drags last year?
